Over dit werk
A dense mound of butterflies rests on the forest floor in amber, sage, dusty purple and black, the trees behind them thrown so far out of focus that they become nothing but dark vertical light.
The butterfly shelf is full of one picture: a child silhouette reaching up while butterflies fly away. This is deliberately not that. These butterflies have landed, they are crowded together, and nobody is reaching for them.
The colours were held in shadow rather than lifted, so the piece reads as photography rather than illustration. It belongs in a bedroom, a study or a dim hallway, on the kind of wall where most butterfly art would look far too cheerful.
