About this piece
A single figure stands before a great sphere resting on flat water, and the only movement in the frame is a ring of ripples spreading away from where they meet.
The figure is small and we resisted every temptation to make them bigger. Scale is the argument here: a person in front of something vast, not diminished by it but not pretending to master it either.
The palette is pale teal, grey and a trace of dusty rose, held deliberately close together so nothing shouts. This piece is built for the wall you look at when you want your eyes to stop working, which is why there is no focal detail to catch them.
