Over dit werk
A woman in a black wide brim hat stands against a wall of cracked cream and gold while feathers and music notes drift across the frame on the same current of air.
This is the light twin of the navy piece. The two were made as a pair because a music room is rarely all dark or all bright, and a buyer with pale walls needs somewhere to put a music picture that does not punch a hole in the room.
Feathers and notes share the frame because both are things that fall slowly and take their time landing. The cracked plaster behind them was aged rather than cleaned up, so the wall in the picture looks like it has already heard a lot.
